Training Resources

While there are different types of training courses, one level is not “better” or “higher” than another. Rather, each has a target audience with specific goals and objectives requiring varying degrees of skills and knowledge.

 

BLS       Basic Life Support  courses include a Heartsaver course designed for people of all ages who want to learn the basic skills of CPR and how to use an AED,  as well as a Basic Life Support for Healthcare provider course, designed for those who, as part of their jobs as professional or volunteer first-responders, have a duty to attend medical emergencies in a pre-hospital or in-hospital environment, and are expected to have the skills to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies work alone or in a team setting to provide CPR, how to use an AED and how to relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

ACLS     Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive-care and critical-care units.

 

PALS     Pediatric Advanced Life Support is designed for healthcare professionals who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies, this includes the  diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for the prevention, assessment and treatment of respiratory and cardiac arrest in both infants and children.

PEARS  Go beyond pediatric BLS. Learn advanced skills to manage cardiovascular and respiratory emergencies in children and infants.

NRP        Neonatal Resuscitation Programs is designed to teach individuals and teams who may be required to resuscitate newborn babies. In Canada, NRP is administered by the Canadian Paediatric Society

FA       First Aid/CPR is designed to teach the people of all ages essential skills of patient care, including how to protect and support the life of a suddenly ill or injured person until emergency medical services arrive, as well as the basic skills of CPR and how to use and AED.
